India is called a Union of states. Currently, India comprises 28 States and 8 Union Territories. In this article; we are giving 'Top Ten List of the Smallest States of India in Terms of Area (as per the census 2011)

1.     Lakshadweep
        Area(Km2) - 30
       Population - 64473

Lakshadweep, the group of 36 islands is known for its exotic and sun-kissed beaches and lush green landscape. The name Lakshadweep in Malayalam and Sanskrit means ‘a hundred thousand islands

India’s smallest Union Territory Lakshadweep is an archipelago consisting of 36 islands with an area of 32 sq km.
        

2.     Daman and Diu

       Population - 243247

Daman is a city in the union territory of Daman and Diu, on India's west coast.
Area of 112 km2 (43 sq mi), it was the smallest federal division of India on the mainland. 


3.     Chandigarh
        Area(Km2) - 114
       Population - 1055450

Chandigarh, the capital of the northern Indian states of Punjab and Haryana, was designed by the Swiss-French modernist architect, Le Corbusier. 

4.     Puducherry
        Area(Km2) - 490
       Population - 1247953

Pondicherry (or Puducherry), a French colonial settlement in India until 1954, is now a Union Territory town bounded by the southeastern Tamil Nadu state. 

5.     Dadra and Nagar haveli

        Area(Km2) - 491
       Population - 343709

Dadra and Nagar Haveli is a district of the Indian union territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu in western India

6.     Delhi

       Area(Km2) - 1483
       Population - 16787941

7.     Goa

       Area(Km2) - 3702 
       Population - 1458545

Goa is a state in western India with coastlines stretching along the Arabian Sea.

8.     Sikkim
       Area(Km2) - 7096 
       Population - 610577

Sikkim is a state in northeast India, bordered by Bhutan, Tibet and Nepal. Part of the Himalayas

9.     Andman and nikobar Islands
         Area(Km2) - 8249 
       Population - 380581


The Andaman Islands are an Indian archipelago in the Bay of Bengal. These roughly 300 islands are known for their palm-lined, white-sand beaches, mangroves and tropical rainforests


10.  Tripura

         Area(Km2) - 10486 
       Population - 3673917

Tripura is a hilly state in northeast India, bordered on 3 sides by Bangladesh, and home to a diverse mix of tribal cultures and religious groups.
